Our goal for your landscape is to create and sustain a healthy and functioning Soil Food Web, which will suppress disease and pest outbreaks.  Nutrients will become available at rates plants require.  Soil will act as a sponge, retaining water and promoting deep root growth.  Soil compaction will be reduced over time.

We utilize foliar sprays and soil drenches during the growing season to enhance flowering and fruit production and build immunity to common pests and diseases.  Our goal is to change the profile of the plant to produce complex carbohydrates and complete proteins that are indigestible to most insects.

 

Soil sampling and amending

Healthy plants create healthy soils.  Over time, plants decay and build organic matter in the soil.  Our job is to ferret out the deficiencies in both the plants and the soil, then to prescribe an amendment program that will bring both plant and soil to full potential.

A soil in balance is literally teeming with microscopic life and will support enhanced bloom, fruiting, and growth.

 

Soil remediation programs

We will put three factors together to remediate your garden’s soil: nutrient density soil test results, granular amendments, and foliar feeding.  A customized program follows the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA)’s Organic Land Care Standards to modify contaminated or compromised soils in order to restore them back to a balanced and healthy growing medium.

Actively Aerated Compost Tea Program

Pumpkin Brook Organic Gardening will customize a Compost Tea Program to meet the specific needs of plants and your soil. The program consists of both compost tea and microbial food applications.

The schedule consists of 1 to 3 spring compost tea applications, 1 to 2 summer microbial food applications, and finally, 1 to 2 fall compost tea applications. The program will be customized based on the needs of the areas being treated.  Compost tea and microbial foods are applied as a foliar, a soil drench, or a deep root injection to trees, shrubs, perennials, and vegetable gardens to boost their overall health.

  • Deep root zone fertilization

    Using our deep root injector, we will inject compost tea and/or microbial foods into the root zone of trees and shrubs in order to better utilize soil enhancement materials and to ensure that the plant is receiving the proper amount of nutrients it needs. Deep root injection also aids in relieving soil compaction by sending high pressure water through an injector gun deep into the ground to break up soil particles.

  • Soil Biology Testing

    After leaf drop in the late fall, we will pull a soil sample to determine the level of active microorganisms in your soil.  This is a valuable report card on how the soil and plant biology enrichment program is progressing.
